Wrestlers usually run or walk to the ring, but there have been some wrestlers in World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) who have opted to use their own transportation instead. Stone Cold Steve Austin had his monster truck, zamboni, and more. The Undertaker had his motorcycle and the Guerreros had their low-rider car. This article looks at wrestling cars, trucks and motorcycles used in wrestlers’ entrances and during revenge storylines.
Stone Cold Steve Austin and His Monster Truck
While feuding with The Rock in the late nineties, Stone Cold Steve Austin took revenge on The Rock for stealing his title belt by crushing The Rock’s Lincoln Continental town car with a Stone Cold themed monster truck on an episode of Raw. He then drove the monster truck to the ring and attacked Rock, slamming him into the vehicle.
Stone Cold Steve Austin and His Zamboni
While in Detroit for Raw, Mr. McMahon talked about who deserved to be World Wrestling Federation Champion because both Undertaker and Kane had pinned Stone Cold Steve Austin for the championship at the pay-per-view Breakdown in September 1998. Austin responded to the proceedings by driving a Zamboni to the ring and attacking McMahon. Austin was handcuffed by police and led away but the reaction from the fans was worth the stunt.
Stone Cold Steve Austin and His Beer Truck
On March 22, 1998, The Rock, Shane McMahon and Mr. McMahon (part of wrestling faction The Corporation) were in the ring discussing Rock’s plans for his match against Mankind when they were interrupted by Stone Cold Steve Austin driving a beer truck to the ring. He climbed out and proceeded to blast The Corporation with a beer bath, effectively soaking and humiliating them. In 2007 he did the same to Maria and Santino Marella.
The Undertaker and His Motorcycle
When The Undertaker switched from being the Deadman to being the American Badass biker, he also ditched his slow, somber entrance to the ring and replaced it with a motorcycle to take him to the squared circle. The Undertaker motorcycle was also useful for entertainment when he used it to chase down his foes.
The JBL Limo
After Bradshaw changed his persona from the tough as nails brawler to the Wall Street millionaire John Bradshaw Layfield (JBL), he came to the ring in a stretch limousine with longhorns attached to it. The JBL limo served to show JBL’s wealth as well as his mega-heel status in the WWE.
The Eddie Guerrero Low-Rider Car
While Eddie Guerrero was in a tag team with his nephew Chavo Guerrero, they drove to the ring in a low-riding car with shocks as their theme music proclaimed that they “lie, cheat, and steal.” During a feud with Eddie, John Cena stole his low-rider in an insult to Eddie’s pride. Eddie got his revenge when he defeated Cena in a Latino street fight match.
The John Cena Car at Wrestlemania 23
John Cena has a tradition of big entrances at Wrestlemania, and at Ford Field for Wrestlemania 23, that tradition did not change. Before his match with Shawn Michaels, Cena drove a Ford Mustang through the streets of Detroit and all the way into Ford Field, where he crashed through a huge glass Wrestlemania billboard.
Other cars used in wrestling include Goldust’s attempt to run down “Rowdy” Roddy Piper during their street fight match at Wrestlemania 12. Kurt Angle once drove to the ring in a milk truck, in a parody of Steve Austin’s pension for coming to the ring in beer trucks and gave Austin and the WCW/ECW Alliance a milk bath. Austin once crushed Mr. McMahon’s Corvette with cement. Rikishi ran down Austin in a hit-and-run in 2001.
There have been many other uses of wrestling cars, usually involving them getting destroyed by one wrestler as revenge against another. The most recent example is Kofi Kingston destroying Randy Orton’s race car with paint and a sledgehammer Cars, trucks, and motorcycles will probably always be welcome in WWE for their sheer entertainment value.
